Study Guide
- In reference to the bovine ovary, know the tissue layers, and then be able to identify various ovarian structures including the stages of formation, i.e., Follicles, C.L. etc.
- Identify the cell layers of the Graafian follicle and their relationship to each other during all phases of the estrous cycle.
- Know the various tissue layers and structures of the female reproductive tract. I.e. cervix, uterine body, oviduct, vestibule, clitoris.
- Be able to identify the location of the various reproductive endocrine glands and the hormones they secrete and tissues affected. (Progesterone, Estrogen, GnRH, L.H. FSH.
- Know the species-specific types of placentas and the 3 layers of the bovine placenta.
- Know the unique interaction between the ovarian artery and the uterine vein in relation to the demise of the C.L.
- Know the bovine ovarian hormone cycle and be able to discuss which hormones are dominate during which phase of the cycle.
- Be able to identify where fertilization takes place, name two enzymes involved in assisting sperm penetration of the oocyte.
- Know the three stages of parturition and what takes place at each stage.
- Be able to identify and discuss the hormonal changes associated with parturition.
