What's a 4-H Teen Road Trip?

Welcome to the 5th Annual (and possibly last) 4-H Teen Road Trip! Do you watch MTV? If not, a road trip is where the VJ’s and others hop into a car and head off somewhere - anywhere. As they go along they do fun and wacky things like riding on the top of the car and good things like community service projects in places that need help. And, they rarely know where they are going.

Well, this road trip is something like the MTV trip. We’re going to be having lots of fun, learn lots of things and do community service and we may not even know where we are going sometimes!

In June 1999 the Maricopa County 4-H Teen Association decided to do a Teen Camp, but more on the basis of a road trip than a traditional camp setting. The idea came up to visit different parts of the huge state of Arizona on an annual basis. In 2001, we visited Northeastern Arizona and Northwestern New Mexico due to the diversity of scenery, cultures and history. In 2002, we went to Southeastern Arizona, first explored by the Spanish, famous for mining, "the Wild West", and now a leader in futuristic exploration. In 2003 drove to the northwest part of Arizona (and some of Nevada and California) to look at the ranches, railroads, and ravines (that hold the water for the state) and took a 17 mile canoe trip. In 2004, we marched up through the central part of the state and into southern Utah to experience the canyons -- The Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and the Virgin River Narrows in Zion National Park. In 2005 we are pointed west, to the deserts and beyond. Sure it will be hot, but it'll be way cool too...
