A Will is a legal document that, upon your death, can: outline the distribution of your property; identify guardianship of your minor children; minimize taxes and other costs; provide security for loved ones; benefit causes you think are important; and, memorialize your existence.

What happens if I die without a Will?

        The state decides how your property is distributed, and what happens to your minor children. Taxes are likely to be higher in this case, leaving less for your loved ones. No allocations will be made for charitable causes, or to memorialize your life.

What should I do if I need a Will, or need to update an existing one?

        It's best to consult your attorney. If you don't have one, contact your local bar association for a referral.

What if I want to provide a charitable contribution?

        Be sure to let your attorney know this, prior to drafting a will. If you already have a will, your attorney may suggest a "codicil." This can add a charitable gift, while retaining other provisions of your existing will.

How might I word a bequest to 4-H in my Will?

        Your bequest may be written like one of these:

"I bequeath the sum of $________ to the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation, 325 Forbes Building, Tucson, Arizona, 85721, an Arizona non-profit corporation."
or

"I give, devise and bequeath to the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation, 325 Forbes Building, Tucson, Arizona, 85721, an Arizona non-profit corporation, for its general purposes all (or state fraction or percentage) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real or personal."
