Areas of Study

Agribusiness Management
[Photo: Grocery Store Produce]Our food and fiber system provides about 18% of all jobs and accounts for nearly 20% of all economic activity in the United States. The Agribusiness Management Option prepares you for an exciting career in business management. This path of study integrates core courses in business administration and agricultural economics. In this option you complete the same core courses required of all business students. These courses include accounting, finance, personnel management, marketing and price analysis, and agribusiness management. Emphasis is given to communication and analytical skills which will prepare you for a successful business career in the U.S. or in a foreign country.

Resource and Environmental Economics
The impact of economic activity on the quality of our environment will be a major public issue in the coming decades. This option prepares students for public and private positions in natural resource and environmental management. Students receive training in the economic, social, and physical aspects of environmental problems. In this option, you are encouraged to minor in a complementary field such as political science, watershed management, or soil and water science.

Agricultural Economics
You may be uncertain about your academic or career interests. But you know that you have a broad interest in public policies surrounding agriculture, natural resource management, environmental protection or economic policy. Then the Agricultural Economics Option is for you. This path of study provides you the flexibility to explore courses in biological sciences, business, renewable resources and other areas. You will take the same core courses required of students in the other two options, but you can work with your advisor to customize this option to meet your interests. Some students pursuing this option have gone on to law school and advanced training in agricultural economics.
