Cow Culling Decision Support System

Management Alternatives

Six management alternatives evaluated are:
  1. Keep all cows of a given age and cow status and allow for breeding of potentially open cows immediately.
  2. Replace all cows of a given age and cow status with a 2.5 year old bred heifer.
  3. Keep all cows of a given age and cow status and allow for breeding open cows in six months.
  4. Cull all cows of a given age and don't replace culled cows with a replacement this period. Wait to evaluate a replace decision until six months from now.
  5. Pregnancy test cows of a given age and cow status. Keep all pregnant cows and don't replace open cows now, wait six months to evaluate replacing culled cows.
  6. Pregnancy test cows of a given age and cow status. Keep all pregnant cows and replace open cows with a bred heifer.
