HS Offers Scholarships
- The Arizona Hydrological Society will award three $500 scholarships
in 1996. The awards are to encourage full-time students in hydrology,
hydrogeology, and other water resources related fields at any Arizona
university or college to excel in their study areas. Any junior, senior,
or graduate student fitting this category is qualified to apply for
the scholarships. Applications for the scholarships must be submitted
by June 30. The scholarships will be awarded in September at the 1996
AHS symposium in Prescott, Arizona For further information contact:

In the Spirit of the Spirit of St. Louis
- The Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation provides grants
up to $10,580 (the cost to construct the Spirit of St. Louis) for research
in a wide spectrum of disciplines. Projects must seek to promote a better
balance between technology and the natural environment. Deadline for

Upcoming Water and Environment Congress
- The North American Water and Environment Congress is scheduled for
Anaheim, California June 22-28. Sponsored by the American Society of
Civil Engineers, the congress will offer nearly 300 workshops and technical
sessions of interest to civil engineers, environmentalists, natural
resource scientists, facilities managers, government officials, and
policy makers. Also included will be a 19-session Destructive Water
Conference, sponsored by the International Association of Hydrological

Drought Mitigation Stories Wanted
- The National Drought Mitigation Center wants descriptions of drought

Santa Cruz Basin Topic of Meeting
- Moving Beyond Political Boundaries: Water Resources Investigations
in the Upper Santa Cruz Basin is the topic of a conference to be conducted
at the Rio Rico Resort, May 31 and June 1. The Arizona Hydrological
Society and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation are sponsoring the meeting.

Requests for Comments
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requests comments regarding
use-attainability analyses (UAAS) for Arizona surface waters. On April
3 and 10 the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality submitted to
EPA UAAS for changes to beneficial uses for surface waters in Arizona.
To better inform EPA's decision making regarding the modification of
beneficial uses on some water bodies listed in the Arizona water quality
standard rules, EPA is seeking any additional information or knowledge.
Comments must be directed to EPA by May 15. EPA requests for comments
and the copies of ADEQ's UAAS are available from Catherine Kuhlman,
