Birdwalk, Avian Photography Lecture
May 10 at Migratory Bird Day
Summer
hours began May 1 and the Arboretum is now open from 6:00 a.m. until 3:00
p.m. daily until August. 31. Come learn about birds on a guided 6:30 walk,
and then see amazing examples of bird photography during a presentation in
our Lecture Room on Saturday, May 10. Events here are part of the larger International
Migratory Bird Day event which is observed worldwide.
Yellow-breasted Chat, Bell's Vireo, Hooded Oriole
and Lazuli Bunting are among the Spring migrants which have returned to the
Arboretum during the past few weeks; bring your binoculars for a chance to
see these and other birds here May 10.
Events of the World Migratory Bird Day morning include:
- 6:00 a.m. Arboretum opens to the public - daily
admission is $7.50 for adults, $3 for ages 5-12
- 6:30 a.m. guided birdwalks
- 8:00 a.m. until noon exhibitors will have tables
near the Smith Building Interpretive Center. Desert Rivers Audubon Society
volunteers will have an assortment of field guides, clothing and gear at their
tent; nearby visitors will find a live exhibit of birds brought to the Arboretum
courtesy of the volunteer wildlife rehabbers who assist the Arizona Game and
Fish Department.

presentation in the Lecture Room by Chandler resident EJ Peiker
This acclaimed Chandler photographer will explain equipment, natural lighting,
and appropriate ethics of nature photography, and will show slides of his
breathtaking close-up photography. World Migratory Bird Day events at the
Arboretum will run from 6:30 a.m. until noon. Summertime business hours at
the Arboretum are 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily; participation in these events
on May 10 is included with adult admission of $7.50 or $3 for ages 5-12.
