Welcome to the UA Department of Entomology

The Department of Entomology at the University of Arizona has an internationally renowned faculty dedicated to excellence in research, teaching, and extension. Faculty expertise encompasses fundamental insect biology, pest management, and outreach. A key department in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Entomology has been generating, synthesizing, and disseminating knowledge about insects for more than a century. The University of Arizona is in Tucson, a lively city surrounded by the beautiful Sonoran Desert.

Entomology enjoys excellent research facilities on the main campus in Tucson and throughout the State of Arizona. Some members of the Department of Entomology are affiliated with the Center for Insect Science and the Carl Hayden Honeybee Lab.

The Department of Entomology offers several programs of study leading to both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The University also offers a graduate interdisciplinary program (GIDP) in insect science.

Entomology at the University of Arizona recently ranked #2 among all major research universities in the U.S. in faculty scholarly productivity. The criteria included publications, citations, awards, and grants for 53 UA faculty members in the Department of Entomology and the Center for Insect Science.

Graduate Assistantships Available

The Department of Entomology at the University of Arizona is recruiting outstanding students for M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Support for graduate study in Entomology is available from UA Graduate School and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Fellowships, BIO5 (UA Biological Sciences) Fellowships, NSF IGERT Fellowships in Genomics, research assistantships, and teaching assistantships.

Graduate Research Assistantship (Doctoral Candidate) in Insect Ecology

A Doctoral Assistantship in Entomology is available at the University of Arizona. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team and study the effects of landscape heterogeneity and agricultural practices on insect population dynamics and the evolution of resistance to insecticides. Interest in insect ecology, geographic information systems, and remote sensing is required. Position opens in September 2007 but could be filled in January 2008. Competitive conditions include benefits, research funding, and salary for 3 years.
