NSC: NUTRITIONAL SCIENCES UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

< Return The N SC Department offers the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in Nutritional Sciences. Two specializations (Dietetics and Nutrition) are offered under this major. The undergraduate major in Food Science was phased out in 1993.

N SC has a very strong undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) that is fully approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE), the accrediting agency of the American Dietetics Association (ADA). The Dietetics specialization prepares students to apply for Dietetic Internships to become Registered Dietitians (RD).  RD's work in governmental agencies, industry, and in health care facilities as administrative and clinical dietitians, food service managers, and nutritional consultants.

The Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) is Wanda Howell, PhD, RD, CNSD.

The Nutrition specialization prepares students for graduate and professional schools, for careers in the food and food supplement industries, and for technical positions in nutrition research. Since 1989, 29 students from N SC programs have applied to dental and medical schools; 25 of these were accepted by medical schools at Arizona, Baylor, Chicago, Mayo Clinic, UC-Davis, and Wisconsin- Milwaukee.  The acceptance rate for the last eight years has been approximately 88%.
