Ecotourism and the desert whale: Fishing families in Baja California

Many fishing families began migrating from mainland Mexico to Baja California in the 1920s and 1930s, as seasonal fishing activities began to increase there.

By the late 1980s, growing pressures on fisheries in Baja California had caused many local fishing families to look for other alternatives, such as recreational whale watching, for income.
