Here, a resident of the Syrian town of Shallalah Saghira can be seen regulating and diverting the flow of qanat irrigation water onto various fields by means of constructing temporary dams in the canal delivering the water. This resident of Shallalah Saghira is irrigating crops with water produced from one of the village's ancient qanats, or irrigation tunnels.
