Expert Meeting, Synergies among Conventions on Biodiversity, Climate
Change, Desertification, and the Forest Principles
In March 97 this internationally sponsored meeting, held in Israel,
focused on identifying "mechanisms and processes which effectively
can promote synergies among many of the measures suggested by the instruments
individually."
- International: Fire
Effects Information System
Although this resource, developed by a USDA research lab, is primarily
aimed at the US, it has extensive information on dryland species (among
others) that will be useful for other regions. (One oddity: much of
the information on each species must be accessed from the main menu
for that species; you can't get to it from the introductory text on
that species.)

FireNet: The International Fire Information Network
Hosted at the Australian National University; information on rural
and landscape fires including fire behaviour, fire weather, fire prevention,
mitigation and suppression, plant and animal responses to fire and all
aspects of fire effects.

Ecological Research
Founded in 1980, the LTER Program supports research on long-term
ecological phenomena in the US. LTER research sites that are arid or
semi-arid include the Jornada Experimental

Wildlife Refuge, and the Shortgrass
Steppe.
