Beaver Creek Watershed Tour

Side Trip B

Follow Road 644 2.3 miles, turn left onto Road 644A, and proceed 1.3 miles to the end of the road (driving on the middle road at the point where Road 644B forks to the left). This will bring you to Stop 3 at the deactivated gaging station for Watershed 6. You can see the instrument house and the flume. Walk up the draw above the flume to view the cleared watershed.

Return to Road 644, turn left, and go 6.3 miles to Stop 4, Watershed 1 on your left. You will see a deactivated instrument house, flume and sediment catchment basin The cabling treatment has converted this pinyon-juniper woodland to native grass range land.

Continue on Road 644 another 1.5 miles to Stop 5 at the end of the road. You will see Watershed 3, plus a flume and weather station. To get a look at what remains of the herbicide treatment you will have to walk a few hundred yards up the drainage from the instrument house.

Turn around, and return 10.1 miles to Forest Road 229. This completes Side Trip B. Turn right on Road 229 to rejoin the main tour route.
