Beaver Creek Watershed Tour

Side Trip D

A photo shows a view looking east from the top of Apache Maid. Several of the experimental watersheds that can be seen from there are marked on the photo.

The road is steep and narrow in some places, but the view is spectacular. During the summer, the fire tower at the top of the mountain is manned, and visitors may climb it.

To reach the tower from the junction of Roads 229 and 230 continue on Road 229 for 0.4 miles to its junction with Road 620. Turn right and proceed 4.1 miles on Road 620 to the top of Apache Maid Mountain. Park at the foot of the tower, which is Stop 8. Return by retracing your route to the junction of Roads 229 and 230, which completes Side Trip D.
