Geographic information systems and geostatistics in
plant disease epidemiology and management

Mission

The Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Arizona is using geographic information systems (GIS) and geostatistics to help manage plant disease problems in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Mexico, and Pakistan. The goal is to communicate traditional and contemporary biological/ecological information for disease management by focusing on areas of high risk or incidence of plant disease. We recognize the need to integrate plant disease data with spatially referenced data on yield, weeds, insect pests, soils, pesticide use, and more for the full application of this technology.

Examples

We are preparing web samples of how GIS has been applied in our disease management research at the University of Arizona. These documents will be available soon.
