Species:  Alternaria japonica Yoshii

Conidia:  (on PCA) mature conidia typically 80-100 x 20-30 µm, non-beaked, broadly ellipsoid or ovoid to obclavate, smooth but may become evenly pitted or punctuate, medium translucent tawny brown, 7-10 transepta, 1-3 longisepta, solitary or typically in chains of 2-4.
Conidiophore: (on PCA) Primary conidiophores arise directly from the agar surface and are 100-150 µm.   Secondary conidiophores are often 55-60 x 5-6 µm.
Additional characters: chlamydospores form on surface and subsurface hyphae
Disease: Black spot of crucifers
Host: Brassica oleracea L. (and varieties) [cabbage, borecole, braschette, cole, colewort, collards, flowering cabbage, kale]
