Species: Alternaria molesta Simmons
Original Reference: Simmons, E. G. 1981. Alternaria themes and variations (1-6). Mycotaxon 13:17-18.
Conidia: (on PCA) mature conidia typically 15-38 x 7-12 µm, non-beaked, ellipsoid to ovoid, smooth, green to straw yellow, 3-6 transepta, longisepta are rare, predominantly solitary.
Conidiophore: (on PCA) 5-20 x 4-5 µm, simple conidiophores, 0-10 septa, the apex is rounded and has one pore.
Additional characters: geniculation is uncommon, proliferation of conidia occurs on the tips of conidiophores. Definite constriction of the conidia.
Disease: lesions on the skin of Phocaenae phocaenae.
