COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND LIFE SCIENCES
CALS APPOINTMENT POLICY FOR (NON-AGENT) FACULTY LOCATED AT OFF-CAMPUS AGRICULTURAL CENTERS
effective July 1, 2007
approved by Executive Council April 23, 2007

All faculty appointments for off-campus Specialists / Research Scientists will reside in their respective academic departments. The research/extension portion of their salaries will be split 49% / 51% between the respective agricultural center and the academic department budget. The exception is resident directors, whose research/extension salaries will be funded 100% in the budget of the agricultural center.

The salary for any formal teaching appointment will always be assigned to the academic department.

Responsibility for P&T / P&CA and salary adjustments will reside in the academic department but the department head is expected to formally consult with the center directors in all of these matters. Conversely, the Directors should return the favor when considering changes in resources such as technical support and other research facilities.

Indirect costs should be retained in the unit that is providing the business management for the grant/contract.

Operations/travel funding will continue to be allocated annually by the Experiment Station Director and the Cooperative Extension Director as lump sums to the academic department head, with the expectation that appropriate support will be re-allocated or otherwise made available to faculty working at agricultural centers.
