CALS Off-Campus Teaching by Research and Extension Faculty
Last Updated 8/30/99

Faculty members who current hold research or extension appointments, and do not hold a teaching appointment in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), may teach courses in CALS off-campus academic program offerings with approval of the unit administrator and Dean. In all cases where the faculty member assumes responsibility for course design and delivery, the following conditions must be met:

a. The appointment of the faculty member will be modified to include a fractional teaching appointment appropriate for the additional duties.

b. The teaching appointment must be in the academic unit in which the course to be taught is administered, or in a closely related unit for courses which may be cross-listed.

c. Normal procedures for faculty appointment in academic units will be followed.

d. Faculty members will not receive Supplemental Salary Compensation for teaching.

e. When the appointment is approved and modified to include the appropriate fractional teaching assignment, an adjustment to the base salary of the individual may be made to compensate for the additional duties, beyond his or her normal workload assignment.

f. The adjusted base salary will be in effect until the faculty member or the academic unit elects to terminate the course from the program.

g. If the faculty member subsequently elects to not participate in the teaching program, or if the course should no longer be a part of the program, the base salary will be reduced by the amount of the original adjustment, along with the proportional share of any salary increases awarded during the period in which the faculty member taught a course.

h. The teaching assignment under these conditions will normally be one course per semester taught in alternate years.

i. Faculty members who participate will receive $2000 in program funds in the year in which they teach. Such funds are to be used in support of their on-going program.
