Pre-med Track

Traditionally, the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree has been offered as an excellent entry degree into a second profession such as medicine. Competition for medical school positions has escalated due to the rising number of students interested in medicine. Students must distinguish themselves not only with excellent grades but also through completion of a rigorous preparatory track.

The Biosystems Engineering (BE) pre-med track has been developed to prepare students for entry into medical schools. Completion of the BE pre-med track not only provides students with the necessary biological basics, but also helps them develop excellent problem solving skills.

The BE B.S. degree (ABET accredited) can be taken in conjunction with other areas of strength (e.g., biology, chemistry, biochemistry microbiology, plant physiology, etc.) to create a unique specialization. Students completing their study in the BE pre-med track satisfy all of the requirements for acceptance into medical school at the University of Arizona and for the majority of medical schools in the United States.

BE pre-med track graduates have exceptionally high acceptance rates to medical school.
