Structural Systems Skills Area: Shielded Metal Arc Welding

Students will be expected to complete a welding activity using a shielded metal arc welder. Students competing in this activity should have previous supervised experience with operating a shielded metal arc welder and will be expected to follow all safe operating practices.Students will be required to wear appropriate personal safety protection clothing/equipment including:

• a welding helmet with a #10 lens,
• safety glasses,
• gauntlet-style welding gloves,
• long-sleeved flame resistant welding coat,
• closed toed shoes.

Students will have 15 minutes to complete this skill activity.
