Agricultural Education

Biography

Dr. Elliot, born in Spokane, Washington, has seven sisters and a brother.  He earned his bachelor degree in agricultural education and his master of arts in agricultural economics from Washington State University (WSU).  After his WSU days he farmed in Montana for six years and operated a custom combining business until 1991.

He received his Ph. D. from The Ohio State University where he worked at the National Center for Research in Vocational Education.  Dr. Elliot has been with the Department since 1992, after a four-year experience at Michigan State University.

His research title is: A Comparison Among Students on High Stakes Tests: Arizona Agriculture in Classroom Academic Achievement Study. This new multi-state research project, W-1006, was formed in 2006. The study incorporates the latest in brain-based research which supports the notion that retention of content is at the highest levels when taught in natural settings or environments. Comparing results among several states is the focus of the study.

International experiences are an important facet of Dr. Elliot’s university life.  He served as journal editor and president of the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE).  His travels have taken him to Mexico, England, Ireland, Trinidad Tobago, Russia, Chile, Ghana and Namibia.  A memorandum between The University of Arizona and the University of Namibia was formally approved in 2000.  Dr. Elliot is also a member of the Department of Arid Lands Resource Sciences
