Artificial Insemination
Artificial Insemination of cows and heifers at the V Bar V Ranch is done in June at a special handling facility at Cedar Flats. The Ranch uses heat cycle synchronization and artificial insemination for genetic improvement and maintenance of the herd. Synchronization allows many cows to be bred over a short period of time which concentrates labor and resources. Artificial insemination allows the Ranch to use genetically superior sires to increase the performance of the herd. Additionally, there are fewer bulls to purchase and maintain. The pregnancy success rate for cows and heifers bred by artificial insemination at the Ranch ranges from 40-60%.
