3D Visualization in GIS Education

Our efforts at producing 3D visualizations of Tucson and the surrounding areas have been limited to two focus projects, both of which use VRML as a language to describe the 3D spatial representation of the objects with respect to each other.

The first project allows you to move art objects around the University of Arizona campus. To try your hand at that, click here.

The second is an interactive 3D GIS of the Santa Rita Experimental Range (SRER), an rangeland used experimentally since the early 1900's. For more on the SRER, visit http://ag.arizona.edu/SRER/. To use the SRER VRML GIS, click here.

Both of these models were built with a good deal of labor, but it is our intent that these kinds of models can be built automatically from a GIS using live data from a database.
