
Dr. Jim Mast graduated from Ohio State University in 1972 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Jim moved to Flagstaff in 1974 and currently remains in private dental practice.
Jim taught classes for, and volunteered at the Arboretum at Flagstaff from the mid 80’s to the mid 90’s, and he taught gardening classes for Flagstaff Community Schools programs in the late 80’s.
A graduate of Coconino County's first master gardener class in 1991, Jim Mast remains a Certified Master Gardener. He has taught the vegetable gardening section for the master gardener trainee classes since 1992, and has attended and volunteered at every Arizona Highlands Garden Conference. In 2009, Jim helped establish the Coconino Master Gardener Association and serves as its current president. He has been a member of the Coconino County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board since 1999.
Jim has participated in most Coconino Master Gardener Association projects and contributed articles for the weekly master gardener column in the Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff's local newspaper. Jim also attended the Master Gardener University at the University of Arizona in the fall of 2007.
Jim has had articles published in Rocky Mountain Gardener Magazine, Horticulture Magazine, and was featured in a citizen profile article in the Arizona Daily Sun. He has also served as a judge for the past several years in both Agriculture/Horticulture and Floriculture at the Coconino County Fair.
