APHID is intended as a resource for Arizona Cooperative Extension staff (Agents, Master Gardeners, etc.) as well as the general public. The site brings together, in a central location, high-quality images of interest to the horticultural community. The images are available in several resolutions, and can be integrated into other web sites, presentations, and publications. There are some restrictions on use, however (see use policy), most notably in any commercial application.

This project was funded by the Arizona Cooperative Extension, through the "Moving to Higher Ground" initiative.

The Web site itself was developed by staff at the Water Resources Research Center.

Kenneth Seasholes
Project management; CGI (Perl & SQL) programming; database management; interface design; HTML coding.

Kyle Carpenter
Interface design; image manipulation; HTML coding.

This site works through the use of Perl CGI scripts which pass SQL commands to an Oracle backend. Additional formatting and features are implemented through the use of "canned" Perl scripts. Data entry is performed, via the Web, by members who have supplied original source materials. This distributed arragement is designed to allow the site to easily grow over time.
