IPM at The University of Arizona
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) activities at the University of Arizona represent an important aspect of our service to clientele in agricultural, urban and natural settings. The IPM Programs represented in the Arizona Pest Management Center have been developed over time in response to clients' needs, and continue to evolve to address new challenges as they arise.
A program represents a staffed, ongoing effort in a given area of applied research and organized outreach to achieve identified goals or outcomes in implementation and education. A project is defined as a short-term applied research and/or extension activity designed to address a specific question or need.
This page provides information about currently funded IPM projects of University of Arizona faculty and collaborating partners.
IPM Program Funding
Starting in FY 2008-2009, Federal IPM 3(d) programs have shifted from formula funding to a new competitive Extension Integrated Pest Management (EIPM) grant program, that encompasses Extension programmatic funding for IPM in agricultural, urban and natural settings. The IPM Coordinating Committee met on December 10, 2008, and several faculty team leaders and task managers have contributed to development of the UA EIPM grant proposal, submitted by the APMC on January 6, 2009.

FY 2008 - 2009 Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) Projects
The Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) supports CE faculty efforts related to developing and/or delivering pesticide safety education to clientele throughout the state of Arizona. APMC PSEP projects are funded with Federal PSEP monies. UA faculty members submit IPM proposals to the IPM Coordinating Committee in response to a request for proposals (RFP). In 2009, $24,700 was awarded for 2008-2009 projects.

Externally Funded IPM Projects
While intramurally-funded IPM projects are important, they represent only a fraction of all IPM projects at UA. Faculty members also develop projects through partnerships with commodity groups, industry, and state and federal agencies, with federal grants making up the largest portion of funded IPM projects.
