Native Habitat: Well drained soil

Growth Habit: Shrub; can be trained into a small tree

Flowering: Yellow, inconspicuous

Distinguishing Characteristics: This is a slow growing plant that is commonly a shrub. It is evergreen and semi-cold tolerant (about 20°F). When pruned as such it can develop into a sprawling low tree with an arching growth form. It is most commonly used in landscaping for screening or for background. From its small yellow inconspicuous flowers it produces a drupe, small black berry-like fruit, that is thin skinned, and contains a pit. It requires average to ample water.
