Natural History and Cultivation Notes: Due to its indestructible nature, privet was once in wide use, especially as a street tree. It is one plant that responds well to shearing. It is hard to beat a Privet Hedge for a formal barrier, especially in mesic climates with adequate rainfall. However, its use is declining in the desert Southwest.
