Welcome to the Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics! With over 75 years of history, AREC is recognized for its high quality faculty, policy-relevant research, and impressive undergraduate and graduate programs.  Students can specialize in agricultural economics and management or environmental and water resource economics, and our graduate program attracts students from around the globe to work with our faculty focusing in agricultural economics, resource economics, and applied econometrics. We serve the land-grant mission of the University through our Cooperative Extension programs, providing research and outreach focused on crop and livestock budgets, marketing and management, environmental and natural resource policy, and regional economics and development.
