Please submit all papers formatted according to the specifications listed below before MAY 15, 2000. Papers should be provided in hard copy and disk and should be proofed and camera-ready.  We will neither edit nor retype them, although we do reserve that right as editors.  Laser printing is preferred -- no dot matrix.  If you are using an ink jet printer, be careful; the ink may smear.  Original copies of papers and artwork cannot be returned.  If you need a copy for yourself, make one before sending us the paper.

Disks - In addition to a hard copy, include a disk copy of the paper. Only 3 1/2-inch disks. Acceptable software programs are: IBM -- Word for DOS, Word for Windows, WordPerfect.

Margins - If using an 8 1/2-by-11-inch (216-by-279-millimeter) page, margins are: * Left margin -- 1 1/4 inches (31.75 millimeters) * Right, top, and bottom margins -- 1 inch (25.4 millimeters)

First Page Only - On the first page of your paper, begin the text 4 inches own from the top of the box. The title and list of authors can begin at the top of the page. This allows space for ISTA to reformat a header with the title of the paper and the names and professional titles of all authors.

Text - Single space within paragraphs; double space between paragraphs.    For text copy, serif typefaces (Times, Palatino, Bookman, etc.) are preferred.   Sans serif typefaces (Avant Garde, Helvetica, Geneva, etc.) should not be used because they are harder to read. Justified text is preferred over "ragged-right" text; do not mix justified text and ragged-right text in your paper.
Text Size - Set body text at 12 point. Set footnotes, tables, and figure labels no smaller than 9 point. Length - We anticipate that papers will be 5 - 12 pages. If your topic demands that your paper be longer, feel free to add more pages. We would rather have a longer proceedings than exclude information valuable to the audience.
Page Numbers - Number all pages. Center page number in the bottom margin, outside the box. ISTA will number all pages in the proceedings sequentially.

Title and Author(s) - The paper title should be centered at the top of the first page. Use Title Capitalization. List authors' names below the paper title. For each author, include a name, title, department (if applicable), and affiliation as desired for final publication. Do not put this information in a footnote. (It is okay to put the title and authors within the top 4 inches of the first page. Only the text has to start 4 inches down.)

Figures, Tables, Worksheets and Photos - Preferably, all figures, tables, and worksheets should be placed within the text, rather than at the end of the paper. Figures, tables, and worksheets must also fit inside the box shown on the first page of these guidelines. High-quality line drawings reproduce best. Send originals or camera-ready artwork; photocopies do not reproduce well. Photographs - ELECTRONIC IMAGES ARE PREFERED. Good-quality black-and-white photographs are acceptable but do not reproduce as well as line drawings. Send original photographs, not photocopies. Do not paste photographs onto your paper. Leave space in the paper for photographs, indicate which photographs go where, and number the photographs on the reverse side.

References - Alphabetize references by authors' last names. Examples of how to list bibliographical references are specified below. Other formats are perfectly acceptable. * Book -- Author's Last Name, First Name. Title of Book in Italics. Place of Publication: Publisher. Year. * Article -- Author's Last Name, First Name. "Title of Article in QuotationMarks." Title of Journal in Italics Volume (Year): Page numbers. * Standard -- Author's Last Name (or Name of Organization). Number and Name of Standard. Title of Book in Which Standard Appears. Place of Publication: Publisher. Year. Using Copyrighted Material in Your Paper - Authors need to obtain permission beforehand to use any copyrighted material in their papers. Time constraints prevent ISTA from obtaining the necessary clearances. Send ISTA any permission letters you have obtained.

Mailing - Mail your paper flat (not folded) via Fed Ex, Express Mail, or other expedited carrier so that it arrives at ARIZONA by MAY 15, 2000. Pack your paper securely so that it is not damaged in transit.

Questions - If you have any questions, call, fax, or e-mail
