MAC OSX SLIRP SCRIPT SETUP

Before you begin, obtain the following:

  1. A CALS E-mail Account.
  2. An Apple Macintosh computer running Mac operating System 10.2 or greater.
  3. Download the MACosx Script from the CALS server. 800 # script here...
  4. Create a Terminal Scripts Folder under Library folder and place cals.script file in there as below:

Checkbox image Edit the file with text editor. The ONLY change you will need to make is @label 16 change "your password" with "your real CALS acct password" and remember it is case sensitive.

I. Selecting and Configuring the Modem as an Active Port.

Checkbox image The first steps are to make sure the Modem is active and recognized by the operating system in the Network Preferences. Most examples and images in this document refer to the typical standard 56K Apple built-in modem. If you are not using the built-in Apple modem some dialog windows will appear slightly different.

Click on the Apple menu icon Apple Menu icon select Location and then select Network Preferences.

Checkbox image Next to the Show: field select Internal modem or your modem from the drop down menu.

Checkbox imageclick on the Modem tab and select the type of modem you are using. For most setups this will be the Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90) (or use your modem):

Checkbox imageCheck the Show modem status in menu bar box. A little phone will appear on the top right of the Apple menu bar.

Checkbox imageClick the Apply Now button to save your changes.

Checkbox imageClose the Network window.

Checkbox imageThe modem should now be configured and active , If not, you will have to set it up according to your instruction manual.

II. Using the Internet Connect Wizard to create a CALS Dial-up Profile for MAC

Checkbox imageDouble-click the Macintosh hard drive icon Macintosh Hard drive iconon the desktop.

Checkbox imageDouble-click the Applications folder Applications folder

Checkbox imageDouble-click the Internet Connect icon Internet Connect icon to begin the dial-up configuration process:

Checkbox image In the Internal Modem window verify that Your correct modem is selected in the Configuration field:

Checkbox imageClick on the Edit button.

Checkbox image In the Network window verify that the Show field is set to Your Modem.

Checkbox imageNext to the Location field, select New Location....

A new window appears that prompts you to name the location. The default location is called untitled1.

Checkbox imageChange the Location name to the following: CALS Modem Connection

The main network window will return.

Checkbox imageSelect the TCP/IP Tab..... Next to the Configure field select Using PPP:

Checkbox image Fill in the DNS server and Search domains as above

Checkbox imageClick on the PPP tab:

Checkbox imageIn the Service Provider field type: CALS

Checkbox imageIn the Telephone Number field enter one of the following numbers:

618-3190 locally or call CALSNet lab to obtain 800 Number

Checkbox imageIn the Account Name field enter your " CALS login ID."

Checkbox imageIn the Password field enter " your CALS password "

Checkbox imageClick the PPP Options button:

Checkbox imageClick on menu next to Terminal Script and choose cals.script click OK.

Checkbox imageClick the Apply Now button and close the Network window.

Checkbox imageWhen you close the Network window,  the Internal Modem Window appears. Verify that the correct telephone number is selected, your CALS Login ID is correct.

Checkbox imageClick the Connect button to connect to the Internet. If you are successful you should see "Connected" in the Status area.

This procedure is new and has been tested out only in a LAB setting. Please attempt to connect following these instructions and call us for clarification. There is no script for the 800 number at this time.
