April CEAC Volunteer Meeting
Open to the General Public
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, 4/13/13, 12 noon for the meeting and presentation.
Meet at the CEAC classroom, 1951 E. Roger Rd, Tucson, AZ 85719.
The CEAC [UA / Controlled Environment Agriculture Center] Volunteer Group meets on the second Saturday of each month from September through May and is open to the general public.
The next general meeting will be Saturday, April 13th , at the CEAC (1951 E. Roger Rd; NE corner of Campbell & Roger), starting at 12 noon (11:30am for a social – bring your lunch and converse with like-minded folks!).
We’ll be doing a wrap-up of the 2013 CEAC Short Course. ALSO, I’m planning to take the tour to Sunizona Family Farm and I’m planning to take LOTS of pictures. They grow “veganically”, which means they don’t use any manure from cows, pigs, horses, etc. (which could contain hormones, antibiotics, etc.). They use raised organic compost beds in their tall-plant greenhouses (vining tomato, etc.) and recirculating compost teas for their flood & drain greens. They also heat using pelleted pecan shells from the groves in Green Valley!
We’ll also have free tomatoes available and will be giving tours of the CEAC Teaching Greenhouse (tall vining crops; commercial-style hydroponic system) and the CEAC Demonstration Greenhouse (simple systems appropriate for hobbyists, schools, etc.).
So, come, enjoy and learn! We hope to see you here, Saturday, 4/13/13.
