Field Trip, Saguaro National Park

Topics:The role and mission of the National Park Service
Biological invasions
Fire and vegetation management

This trip will be hosted by Dana Backer of the resource management staff at Saguaro National Park (SNP). We will meet Dana at the Visitor's Center at SNP East, then we will drive to the Javelina Picnic Area. From the picnic area, we will hike about one mile over rocky, uneven terrain. Dana will talk about fire, nonnative species, and vegetation management at SNP, and she will answer questions about her experiences as an employee of the NPS and, before that, The Nature Conservancy. Expect the weather to be either rainy and miserably cold or hot and dry; bring water and wear appropriate shoes and clothing. Boots and a hat are strongly recommended. We should return to campus by 5:00 p.m.
