This
class gives students a foundation in the historical context of natural
resource management, focusing on the social, political and economic
factors that affect natural resource use. We cover the history of resource
use in the United States from the late 1500's, a time of european adventurers
and settlers, up to and including present day practices.
The
class also presents legislation and policies important to all natural
resource managers, as well as to others who have any interaction with
natural resources (such as business managers who must source, use, or
transport a resource).
While
RNR 200 is required for all students enrolled at the School of
Natural Resources, it is an excellent elective for students in other
disciplines who have an interest in the environment, or who are interested
in possibly pursuing a career in protection and management of natural
resources.
