The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension Cochise County

Master Watershed Steward Program

The Master Watershed Steward Program provides education to citizens to equip them to serve their communities in enchancing local natural resources. The program consists of a series of educational sessions, several of which are field trips. Some of the topics covered in the program are:

  • geology
  • climate
  • watershed and stream processes
  • soils and erosion
  • vegetation and wildlife, and
  • water related issues.

After completing 50 hours of course and fieldwork, participants receive an Associate Watershed Steward certificate. Following this, participants are expected to volunteer 40 hours on a watershed enhancement project in their community or on their own land to apply the information and skills received from the program. Projects may included on-the-ground enhancement activities, monitoring, survey or assessment, community education, curriculum development or create your own!
