In January 1997, the Sierra Vista City Council formed The Plant Sciences Task Force.  This task force was established to address the native plant challenge associated with area development.

The Task Force soon identified the need for a plant salvage yard to temporarily house native plants displaced by improvement projects.

The Plant Sciences Center of Sierra Vista, Arizona is located on land donated by The University of Arizona Sierra Vista Foundation.

The Center encompasses an area of 15,000 square feet and is located at The University of Arizona South Campus, 1140 N. Colombo.

Tours of the Center are available by appointment by calling (520) 458-8278 ext 141 or email psc@ag.arizona.edu

Ground breaking for the Plant Sciences Center, was held just eight months after the Task Force's inauguration.

Dr. Groth from The University of Arizona, City Manager Chuck Potucek, Carmel Vangilder, Arizona Department of Transportation's Mark Taylor, Mayor Richard Archer and Wettie the Waterdrop joined the City Council in cutting the ribbon.
