Insect Identification for the Practitioner

Interested in learning how to identify insects and arthropods commonly found in agricultural and urban settings?

This class is offered as a University of Arizona course in the Entomology Department for one hour of UA credit. You can enroll either as an undergraduate or graduate student. All students must register for the course. Registration can be conducted in person 1-hour before the beginning of the first class. No prior University course work is required.

This course consists of four, 4-hour sessions held on Wednesdays, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at The University of Arizona, Maricopa Agricultural Center:
September 18, 25 & October 2, 9.

The four sessions will include morphology and taxonomy, use of identification keys to order and family, and spot identification skills for key arthropods.

This course is team taught by Drs. Dawn Gouge, Kirk Smith, Peter Ellsworth and Carl Olson.

The Arizona Structural Pest Control Commission will issue 6 hours of continuing education credits for specific categories.

The Arizona Department of Agricultural has authorized 4 hours CEUs per class session (16 if you take the whole course of four, 4-hour sessions) for those who hold Arizona Department of Agriculture credentials. CCA credits are being applied for

There is no admission fee for undergraduate Arizona residents. For graduate students there is a $15 Non-Degree Admission application fee.

After you have completed the non-degree application, you then enroll in the course(s) that you intend to take. The cost for each 1-credit mini-course is $147.00.
