Brummermann Voucher Collection
Margarethe Brummermann is preparing illustrated field guides with high-resolution images of about 1,200 species of Arizona’s beetles (Coleoptera) and over 500 species of true bugs (Hemiptera). These guides will include most of the common Arizona species as well as some that are rarely found in collections and whose images have never been published.
The field guides will be published in print and/or on-line. Preliminary versions of the images are already available on BugGuide.net. All photographed specimens, labeled with the UAIC number, collection information, and an additional green label containing the BugGuide reference number are being deposited as vouchers in the UAIC.
Because only live specimens can be trusted to show true colors and natural postures, the insects collected over the course of 5 years were chilled to slow them down and then photographed on a white background. Elements of up to 5 shots per specimen were combined digitally to produce a single sharp image.
