'Mind + Bio-Mechanics + Fertility' TEDx Tucson Salon Event

Members of the Arizona Health Sciences Center’s faculty will be featured at the upcoming TEDx Tucson Salon series event: Mind + Bio-Mechanics + Fertility. The presentation will take place on Thursday, April 25, 5-6:30 p.m., in the lower level of the UA Bookstore in the Student Union Memorial Center.  The event is free, but you should register at the link below.

Featured presentations include:

Charles L. Raison, MD
“Coming to Our Senses: Rethinking Depression and Its Treatment”
Dr. Raison is internationally recognized for his studies examining novel mechanisms involved in the development and treatment of major depression and other stress-related emotional and physical conditions.  He holds a joint appointment as associate professor with the Department of Psychiatry at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson, and as the Barry and Janet Lang Associate Professor of Integrative Mental Health with the Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences.

David G. Armstrong, DPM, MD, PhD
“Optional Extras and Apps: How a Visit to the Human App Store Will Change What Makes Us, Us.”
Dr. Armstrong has published many of the key works in the field of amputation prevention that have spanned an astonishing array of topics, including epidemiology, vascular and infectious diseases, wound healing, neurology, classification, team-building, biomechanics, biology and limb-salvage surgery. He is professor of surgery and director of the Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA) and scientific director of the Interdisciplinary Consortium on Advanced Motion Performance (iCAMP) with the Department of Surgery at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson.

Victoria Maizes, MD
“Beyond Organic”
Dr. Maizes is internationally recognized as a leader in integrative medicine. She has help steward the growth of the UA Center for Integrative Medicine, with Dr. Andrew Weil, from a small program to a designated Center of Excellence, training more than 500 residents and fellows annually. She is the executive director of the UA Center for Integrative Medicine and a professor of medicine, family medicine, and public health.

TEDx Salon is a subsection of the TED nonprofit organization devoted to spreading educational experiences. The program consists of local, self-organized events that use video or live speakers to promote intellectual discussions and connections within a group.
