Dennis Armstrong is an internationally known dairy facilities specialist. He was born and raised in Big Springs, Nebraska. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree at Colorado State University. He became an instructor and the dairy farm manager for the Dairy Science Department at Michigan State University while he pursued his Master's Degree there. He stayed in Michigan for 12 years, and then moved to Arizona in 1972. He was hired by Shamrock Farms, but returned to academia after about two years working as their general manager. He stayed at the University of Arizona until he retired in 1999.

Dennis worked on milking equipment and parlor layout during his early career. As time passed, his focus changed to facility design for large dairies, particularly those in hot, dry climates. Many of the most important changes in dairies in the west over the past 15 years can be attributed to his research. He has almost 400 publications to his credit. He has also received numerous awards, including the American Dairy Science Association Extension Specialist Award, Epsilon Sigma Phi Arizona Extension Specialist of the Year, University of Arizona College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Faculty Member of the Year, Ram City Friendship Award for contribution to Guangshou, China development in dairy farming, and the Arizona Farm Bureau Environmental Technology Annual Award.
