English Language Pitfalls

When writing your grant proposal use clear and concise language. Do not add unnecessary or flowery wording. Some examples of poor choices for introductory wording follow:

Introductory Deadwood

It is interesting to note that,

It should be pointed out that,

It should be remembered that,

It is significant that,

It is worthy of note that,

It has been demonstrated that,

Get rid of all of the above and capitalize the next word.

 

Conciseness

Do Not Use

an excessive amount of too much
at a high level of productivity highly productive
at a rapid rate rapidly
at no time never
due to the fact that because
has the capability of can
in the majority of cases usually
in view of the fact that since
it is the opinion of the author I think
