Community development

Within program areas, reporting categories focus on specific issues or topics. Working groups plan, implement, and evaluate projects and activities within the reporting category. They are led by "coordinators", which may be the State Extension Specialist or another Extension faculty member with expertise in that area.

Campus based partners include the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics and the School of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Outputs

  • Provide leadership training programs.
  • Provide assistance in facilitation and conflict resolution.
  • Work closely with elected officials and community groups.

Outcomes

  • Residents have an increased capacity to build communities.
  • Residents resolve community issues.
  • People with shared interests are linked.
  • Communities have an increased ability to acquire, store, and make use of forms of power or wealth, particularly knowledge and skills.

Agricultural Literacy Reporting Category
Activities and projects in this category seek to improve the public's understanding of agriculture by 1) assisting educators with integrating information about agriculture into the subjects they teach and 2) educating consumers about our Arizona agriculture industry and agriculture's impact on their life.
Community Organization Reporting Category
Projects and activities include community youth development and capacity building.
  • ACE COMMUNITY BUILDING Working Group
    Arizona Cooperative Extension has a commitment to building strong and healthy communities by developing the capacities of individuals to bring about positive changes in their environment.
    Coordinators: Cynthia Flynn, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Pima County Cooperative Extension; Juanita O. Waits, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Maricopa County Cooperative Extension; and Beth Tucker, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Coconino County Cooperative Extension.

Leadership Reporting Category
Projects and activities include leadership development and educational programs.
  • ARIZONA CIVIC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE Working Group
    This group will focus on the dissemination of the curriculum module of Civic Leadership. Coordinator: Marta Stuart , Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Yavapai County Cooperative Extension.

  • AZ COMMUNITY TRAINING IN LEADERSHIP Working Group
    Cooperative Extension has a critical role in developing the capacities of individuals through state-wide leadership development, education, training, and by providing research based information. Coordinator: Juanita O'Campo Waits, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Maricopa CountyCooperative Extension.
    Projects include:
  • ARIZONA COMMUNITY VITALITY Working Group
    Provides a model to build capacity to support systems change to fill the gaps in Extension to build meaningful community partnerships that result in effective programs. Coordinator: Cathy Martinez, Associate Agent, 4-H Youth Development, Pinal County Cooperative Extension.

Marketing, Trade, and Economics Reporting Category
Projects and activities include marketing and management, production costs, and public policy.
