Chapter 7: Human Alterations to Riparian Areas
Agriculture Alterations
- The explosion of the human population in the 19th century led to a need for increase in agricultural production. Without an increase in the agricultural production the needs for the population could not have been met.
- Initially there was little consideration given to the environmental impacts of maximizing agricultural production.
- Today significant consideration is given in minimizing negative impacts on the environment by using best management practices (BMP’s).
