Tuesday Morning Notes
October 12, 1999
Congratulations to Darcy Dixon on her appointment to Area Agent.
She will
provide leadership in the Family and Community Connection Initiative
and
accompanying grants.
* We are announcing MAJOR personnel changes in the Cochise County office.
Douglas Dunn has announced his retirement plans, as of November 30,
1999,
and Carol Dickson, Administrative Assistant, has accepted a position
with
the Border Patrol, Tucson Chapter, effective October 22, 1999.
The morning
of October 28 has been selected for an Open House at the Willcox office
to
honor Doug Dunn.
* I want to extend my appreciation to all the faculty and staff who
participated in Cotton Field Day at the Maricopa Agricultural Center
on
October 6, 1999. It was the best turn out of faculty, department
heads,
and staff that I have seen in 10 years. The attendance of farmers
was
down, likely because of the price of Cotton and the inability to receive
CEUs. We will have the CEU issues resolved next year. We
are setting up a
meeting with Sheldon Jones, Director of the Department of Agriculture,
to
resolve this issue.
* Mark your calendars and plan to attend the 9th Annual Desert Vegetable
Workshop, November 18 at the Shilo Inn in Yuma. The agenda is
being
finalized. Presentations from researchers in Arizona, California,
and
elsewhere will cover topics on key pests, new chemistries and developments
for lettuce, cucurbits, and cropping systems.
* Sabbatical applications/materials are due in the Dean’s office November
1st. County sabbatical applications should now be in the Director’s
office
for review and approval and will be forwarded to the Dean’s office
on or
before November 1, 1999.
* The Touchstone Energy Ag-CAT Open is scheduled for Friday, November
5,
1999, with Shot Gun beginning at 7:45 A.M., at the Starr Pass Golf
Club.
This Agriculture Alumni Student Support Endowment Golf Tournament is
an
annual event. Participants will play in foursomes (which you
select in
advance via the registration form; otherwise you will be assigned to
a
foursome by tournament officials). Contact Beth Carter at 520/621-7190
for
a registration form and/or to obtain more specific information.
* Deborah Young, in conjunction with Bruce Tabashnik, Entomology
Department Head, and John Palumbo, Integrated Pest Management Coordinator,
has issued a call for IPM proposals for the period 10/1/99-9/30-2000.
