* Congratulations to Deborah Young in receiving a national award at the Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals (ANREP) meetings in Florida last week. The Partner Award "recognizes individuals, organizations, and institutions that provided outstanding support to ANREP or to the Extension natural resources programs in which ANREP members participate."

* Position Opening: The primary purpose of the Assistant/Associate Area Agent, Natural Resources position is to provide state-wide leadership in the coordination, development, and overall fire education strategy for the state of Arizona in collaboration with the State Forester. This position has the responsibility of developing and conducting Extension programs that address priority problems in the assigned area, as well as cooperating with and supporting the overall Extension and outreach program. Additional responsibilities may be deemed necessary and assigned by the College and/or Extension administrators. The position reports to the County Director in the Pima County Extension Office and through her to the Director of the School of Renewable Natural Resources and has statewide responsibilities. The duration of this year-to-year grant funded position is approximately two years with the possibility of an extension based on the availability of funds.

* The National 4-H Council Youth Grants Program will provide literacy grants in the amounts of $500 to $2,000 (funded by the Dr. Scholl Foundation) to stimulate literacy education nationwide. Grants are awarded to communities in support of ongoing literacy education programs or to stimulate new and creative youth-led programs. The role of adults is to provide guidance to young leaders in the literacy programs. Application deadline is July 9, 2002. * The next CED meeting is planned for September 11-12, 2002. The location is open and we would appreciate recommendations.

* Twenty-eight representatives from six counties participated in the first phase of the Advocates for Child Care Excellence (AC2E) Project in Prescott, June 7 and 8. This three-year project teaches child care providers, educators and parents about public policy issues and provides skill-building opportunities that will lead to improvements in child care quality. Cooperative Extension participants included Patty Merk and Jolie Ogg Graybill (Maricopa), Marta Stuart (Yavapai), Lynne Durrant (Mohave), Esther Peterson and Larry Yazzie (Navajo) and Michelle Rodriquez (Pinal/Gila). The group was also joined by Mark Nagasawa of the Governor's Office for Children. AC2E is a project of the Arizona Cares Initiative, one of the Extension working groups for Family and Consumer Sciences.

* Inspection Training & Certification Workshop, sponsored by the National Association of Wastewater Transporters (NAWT) & University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Thursday & Friday, June 27 & 28, 2002; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m, Embassy Suites, Flagstaff, Arizona.
