Tuesday Morning Notes
July 29, 2003
It's awards time in Extension and we need your
nominations! The Extension Faculty of the Year and the Extensionist of the Year
awards for 2003 will be presented at the Dean's Fall Faculty/Staff Meeting. The
deadline for award nominations is September 2, 2003. Faculty of the Year Award
criteria and guidelines can be found at http://cals.arizona.edu/awards/extfacultyawd.html
and a nomination form for the Extensionist of the Year Award is available in PDF
format at http://cals.arizona.edu/extension/temp/2003_Nomination_Form.pdf.
The Seventh Annual Women in Agriculture Conference was a resounding
success. This conference, jointly sponsored by CALS and the Arizona Farm
Bureau, attracted 81 women from all areas of Arizona. The featured
speaker, Jolene Brown, helped the women experience the value of balance,
partnering and support while they learned how to "Stand Up! Step Out!
Lead!". Dr. Deb Young welcomed the women to the conference and Dr. Billye
Foster encouraged them to continue their lifelong learning. Kathleen
Duncan, Duncan Family Farms, encouraged them to pursue their passions and
Rep. Jennifer Burns, District 25, helped them in their communication with
elected leaders. Monica Pastor, 4-H Agent, served as conference
coordinator with advice and assistance from the 14 member Women's
Leadership committee.
As Bill Peterson and I take over the responsibility of Civil Rights/Affirmative
Action within Extension, I wanted to let you know that the "Affirmative Action
Complaint Procedures" you have on file in your office have been briefly updated.
The procedures are available at: http://cals.arizona.edu/extension/employee/ComplaintProcedures.pdf.
In addition, the Civil Rights Overview PowerPoint file has been updated as part
of the reference material provided by this office. Both can be found on our website
under "Employee Resources/Policy/Civil Rights Affirmative Action" and we plan
to add more material in the future. If you have any questions, please contact
our office.
ECAT is offering two distance classes in the fall-Dreamweaver Basics (9/3-10/8)
and Creating and Modifying Images for a Website Using Photoshop 7 (10/16-11/6).
Each class will be taught using WebCT, can be accessed through your local computer/browser,
has a fee of $20 each per registrant (payable by IDB or personal check), and a
time commitment for each class would be about 2 hours per week. Both classes are
open to College employees, students, and volunteers, but volunteers would need
to be sponsored by the appropriate department/county in order to get a University
NetID to use the WebCT system. For details about each class, prerequisites and
requirements, see links off the general ECAT classes page at http://cals.arizona.edu/ecat/classes/.
