Congratulations to Dr. Lynne Borden who has been selected to serve on the CYFERnet Teen Editorial Board. Editorial Board members shape the vision, direction and composition of the CYFERnet resources at the national level.

Congratulations to Darcy Tessman who is this year's winner of the USDA/Army Youth Development Salute Award to be presented at the NAE4-HA Conference in Oklahoma City on November 2.  Darcy is being recognized for her outstanding accomplishments in 4-H programming with military installations in her community and state.

Monica Pastor has agreed to work with Dave Cox's office for student recruitment on a temporary basis for the next few years. This is a 5% appointment, no salary increase, but additional program dollars from University Recruitment, to offset the night and weekend commitments.

CALS has joined with the USDA and the Western Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors in sponsorship of a grant writing workshop that will be held at the Marriott University Park Hotel on December 6, 2004. Details and registration forms may be obtained at: http://cals.arizona.edu/aes/csreesworkshop/ .  Extension Administration will subsidize the $70 registration fee for Extension faculty who wish to attend. The Colorado River Indian Tribe (CRIT) tribal council voted to establish an endowment in honor of Armendez "Mendez" Van Fleet, a long-time 4-H volunteer and leader who was inducted into Arizona's 4-H Hall of Fame on October 10, 2004 by Bill Peterson and Joe Leisz in a ceremony in La Paz County on October 10, 2004.  The funds will support 4-H youth in La Paz County.        

Rob Call and John Begeman gave the second Master Gardener University (MGU) on October 21-22.  Forty-six Master Gardener Volunteers participated, selected by their counties. The volunteers visited the UA Campus, Pima County Extension Gardens, toured the Tree Ring Lab, Forbes, Marley and Herring Hall, and demonstration gardens were given.  Thanks to the 46 Master Gardener Volunteers from around Arizona who participated and to Rob Call, John Begeman and all the faculty who gave of their time to make this event successful.

The new statewide AZ Master Watershed Steward Program is offering classes to become a volunteer for the Central and Southern Arizona areas. Thursday classes begin January 20 through April 21 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Maricopa County Cooperative Extension Office. The cost is $125, which includes a notebook, training manual, and handouts. Applications are due by December 17.  Contact Robert Emanuel (emanuel@ag.arizona.edu) for more information.

UPCOMING DATES:

December 14 -  State Extension Water Quality Conference.  This conference will be hosted annually in one of the six Master Watershed Steward Regions. This year the conference will be at the Yuma Crossing State Park. Presentations will be made by the Bureau of Reclamation, Yuma Water Users Association, Yuma Parks and Recreation, and Yuma area growers.  A tentative agenda can be found at http://ag.arizona.edu/waterquality/index.htm .
