- The SmartScape Program is pleased to announce the addition of two new classes to the popular WaterSmart residential series. On September 24, from 9:00-11:00am, Lisa Shipek of the Watershed Management Group will present "WaterSmart Choices for Residential Landscapes". This class focuses on three viable alternatives to irrigating with potable water - water harvesting, gray water, and reclaimed water - and promotes use of these resources rather than reliance on potable water for landscape irrigation. The class will be held at the Pima County Extension Office, 4210 N. Campbell Avenue. On October 8, from 9:00-11:00am, Scott Calhoun of ZonaGardens will present "Desert Rain Gardens". This class introduces the concept of creating a water-thrifty landscape that relies on seasonal rainfall and rainwater harvesting techniques rather than supplemental irrigation with potable water. Design tips, plant selection and considerations, and plantings for berms and basins are discussed. Class will be held at The Nature Conservancy (dance studio), 1510 E. Ft. Lowell Road. Both classes are sponsored by Tucson Water and are free to the public. Call Kathryn or Teri at 520.626.5161 to register and be sure to review the schedule for other classes at the SmartScape Web site.
