EXTENSION PROGRAM PROPOSALS FOR FY09-10:

We are extending the deadline for Extension Program proposals for FY09-10 funding by one week. The proposals will now be due on Friday, August 7 at 5:00 pm. Details on the RFP can be found at ace.clover.cals.arizona.edu/state/employee-resources. For those interested, a short list of "proposed" proposals is also available at this site.

FOCUS ON PROGRAMS:

The Arizona Osteoporosis Coalition and UA Cooperative Extension were selected as one of three national pilot sites for the new Bodyworks/Best Bones Forever (BBF) project funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Women's Health. The new BBF campaign developed by Hagar Sharp, Inc. will replace the Powerful Girls campaign. Sharon Hoelscher Day and Cathy Martinez received the one-year contract to offer modified Bodyworks training to Pinal County parents and their adolescent daughters and promote the new Best Bones Forever campaign for adolescent girls. The national BBF campaign is due to launch nationally on September 2.

MANAGING IN TOUGH TIMES NATIONAL INITIATIVE (MiTTNet):

The MiTTNet Initiative will be launched through a Web conference on Thursday, July 30 at 10:00am (PT). With economic challenges facing Americans every day, the Cooperative Extension System is providing a new source of relevant, community-based educational programs from across the nation to complement what is available at www.extension.org and in every state. MiTTNet is a directory of existing educational programs and materials relevant to managing in these difficult times. The directory will be available through eXtension for use by Extension educators across the country. MiTTNet includes content for individual and family financial and stress management, farm and ranch financial and risk management, community economic development, and youth stress management and positive actions. Based on these categories, the most critical issues now facing Extension clients were identified and existing, high-quality Extension resources to address them were sought and added. The directory provides easy access to materials Extension educators can download and use, saving them time and resources while accelerating the Extension response to clients. Embedded evaluation tools will help gauge the effectiveness of this model and help us perfect the process as we address this and future issues.

To participate in the Web conference, go to connect.extension.iastate.edu/teammeeting/ five minutes before the start time and enter as a guest. When prompted, enter your name followed by your institution (ex: Mary Smith, Penn State). Questions can be asked via the Connect chat function and the session will be recorded for later viewing. No preregistration is necessary.

Moderators for the Web conference will be Lyla Houglum, Director of Special Initiatives and Western Region Extension Executive Director and Jane Schuchardt, National Program Leader, Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, USDA. Individuals representing each of the four programmatic areas will offer features of content included in the directory. A demonstration of how to use the directory will also be featured.
